Dragon Boat Queensland is committed to providing members with excellence in training across all areas of dragon boating.

Courses offered include:

• Level 1 AusDBF Coaching Course
• Training of Sweeps
• Provisional Sweep Accreditation
• AusDBF Officials Course

Course information

At the start of each season, DBQ will release a training calendar for the year so members and paddlers can plan their training schedules.

Level 1 AusDBF Coaching Course

This course is designed to provide new and existing dragon boat club coaches with the basic skills necessary to plan a training session and coach a team for competition racing.

Topics related to training and coaching in general and adult learning principle, to focus more specifically on the sport of dragon boating including technique, session plans and racing.

The course is endorsed by the ASC (Australian Sports Commission).

AusDBF Officials Course

This course run by AusDBF volunteers is designed to train people in the skills required to be a race official. The purpose of the AusDBF Race Officials Scheme is to ensure that:

- AusDBF's events are run at a high technical standard
- There is a pool of qualified race officials available to each AusDBF Member.

This course provides club representatives with the necessary information to host a regatta at IDBF (International Dragon Boat Federation) standards. It provides an opportunity to ask questions and seek clarification around the rules and regulations of racing.

There are a number of areas and levels a person can be trained as an Official including:

• Marshalls
• Chief Official
• Chief Judge
• Race Starter

Sweep Training and Accreditation

The purpose of this course is to provide learning sweeps with the skills and knowledge to steer a dragon boat safely.

There are two parts to the program – Training and Accreditation.

During the accreditation process, sweeps will receive:

• Training with an experienced sweep
• A written exam
• An initial practical test
• Issuing of Provisional Accreditation
• Sweeping crews in four (4) races at two (2) events
• Issuing of Full Accreditation
